Protecting Protest at Occupy South Dakota |
The Occupy Wall Street movement has spread to South Dakota's Main Streets and the American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota is standing beside demonstrators and defending your right to speak out.
We are jazzed to see concerned citizens across the state exercise their Constitutional right to protest and we want to remind all demonstrators to Know Your Rights and What to Do if You're Stopped by the Police (follow the links to our informational guides, which you can print off an distribute to your groups). We are engaging protestors on Facebook and Twitter, as well.
The ACLUSD staff and volunteers will regularly visit and monitor demonstrations to record police/protestor activity, including misconduct. To this end, if you or somebody you know has been the victim of police misconduct associated with the protests, if you've seen the police engaging in intimidating behavior or using video cameras in a way that chills the right to protest, or if you've seen the police doing something right, please tell us about it. Send an email to twalker@aclu.org and tell your story. We're collecting your videos and photos, too.
