UPDATE: On March 9, in the House, Rep. Manny Steele of District 12 in Sioux Falls voiced an objection to this simple commemoration that recognized some of the most marginalized people in South Dakota. This commemoration that signaled welcoming and belonging in our state is now shelved.
House Commemoration is legislation that aims to show support for South Dakota's community of LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit activists.
The ACLU of South Dakota supports this commemoration. For decades, LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit people have firmly remained on the frontlines of an endless battle for equality in South Dakota. House Commemoration 8029 is a great move by state lawmakers to show solidarity with tenacious and driven advocates who fight to make this state better for everybody.
