UPDATE: House Joint Resolution is scheduled for hearing in Senate State Affairs Committee on March 1. 

House Join Resolution 5003 would increase the threshold for a constitutional amendment to be passed from simple majority to three-fifths of all votes. 

House Joint Resolution 5003: Proposing and submitting to the voters at the next general election a new section to Article XI of the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, relating to a three-fifths requirement for certain initiated constitutional amendments or measures. 

We oppose House Joint Resolution 5003 as one of many repeated attacks on the direct democracy in South Dakota.
