UPDATE: The House State Affairs committee voted to send a significantly amended version of Senate Bill 24 to the 41st day.

Originally, Senate Bill 24 would have provided for online voter registration through a system provided by the Secretary of State. The bill, however, was significantly amended and now only allows registered voters to update their voter registration online. (See the differences in the PDFs below.)

We support this bill because it would registered voters to more easily update their information online. We would, however, like to see full online voter registration as was originally intended with this bill in South Dakota. Modernizing voter registration with an online system is an important step toward a fairer, freer system of democracy.
