Precinct workers or poll workers are key players in running polling places on Election Day. This (typically) paid position is recruited by your county auditor. Precinct workers do more than check in voters and hand out ballots. They are on the frontlines of defending every South Dakotans right to access the ballot and work to ensure voters are knowledgeable of the political process and understand how their vote can impact their community.
By showing up to the polls you aren't just making sure elections run smoothly, you're making it known to your community that voting is important. You signing up as a precinct tells your peers that the polling place is a safe space for everyone regardless of creed, race, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
