Get in touch with your county auditor today to ensure every voter has the ability to cast their ballot on Election Day by signing up as a precinct worker

Precinct workers or poll workers are key players in running polling places on Election Day. This (typically) paid position is recruited by your county auditor. Precinct workers do more than check in voters and hand out ballots. They are on the frontlines of defending every South Dakotans right to access the ballot and work to ensure voters are knowledgeable of the political process and understand how their vote can impact their community.

By showing up to the polls you aren't just making sure elections run smoothly, you're making it known to your community that voting is important. You signing up as a precinct tells your peers that the polling place is a safe space for everyone regardless of creed, race, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Start with telling the county auditor your full name and what county you live in. Tell them you are calling to sign up to be a precinct worker for the General Election on Nov. 3, 2020 and are able to commit to the full day of volunteering or that you would like to learn more about how else you can lend your time and skills.

Keep calling or emailing. Your county auditor could be busy, and that is normal. However, it is their duty to respond to you and staff polling locations on Election Day. If you don't hear from them for a few weeks, send us an email at southdakota@aclu.org
