House Bill 1086

Background: House Bill 1086 would make an appropriation for providing a grant to a nonprofit that delivers programming to support offenders and correctional staff.

Our Stance: The ACLU of South Dakota supports House Bill 1086.

We support expanding resources for rehabilitative programming. Through this grant, a nonprofit can offer trauma-informed programming that includes leadership development and personal and professional skills training at state correctional facilities and serve both offenders and correctional staff. These programs are necessary to break the cycle of crime and recidivism.
