Background: Senate Bill 111 would require that social media companies provide collected personal data of a user at the user's request and maintain transparent interoperability interfaces.

Our Stance: The ACLU of South Dakota supports Senate Bill 111.

Social media companies collect vast amounts of data about their users – everything from our names and locations, to what we're looking at and for how long, to what kind of device we use to get online. Our data is ours. We should be able to see what personal information of ours is being collected and how private companies are using it whenever we want to.
