Legislative Recap 2016 Part Three: A Win for Juvenile Justice!
On January 1, 2016, South Dakota was one of 36 states to have laws on the books allowing children who commit crimes to be sentenced to life in prison without parole. On March 29, 2016 that all changed, and we became the 15th state to ban this cruel practice with the passage of SB 140.

What Could Justify Using a Taser on an 8-Year-Old Girl?
Justified.
That’s how the Pierre Police Department described an incident several days ago where an officer fired his Taser at an 8-year-old girl after receiving a report that she had stabbed herself in the leg and appeared suicidal.
