House Commemoration 8002 recognizes the strength and contributions of the LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit community in South Dakota.

The ACLU of South Dakota supports this commemoration. The many accomplishments and milestones of the state’s LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit community should be celebrated and this is a great step forward by the state to show solidarity with South Dakota's queer community.

UPDATE

For the third year in a row, a Commemoration recognizing South Dakota’s vibrant LGBTQ+ & Two-Spirit community has been pulled from the floor. It only takes one member to make the procedural motion. This year, Rep. Krohmer made the decision.

Regardless of what lawmakers do and say, queer South Dakotans will continue to live and thrive in this great state. Our community will continue to grow year after year, they will show up to the ballot box, and they’ll fight tooth and nail for the respect they so rightly deserve.

If you’re wondering why Rep. Krohmer decided to oppose this commemoration, ask him!
