The ACLU of South Dakota opposes Senate Bill 55. No student should feel pressured in public school to adopt certain religious beliefs. This bill sends a thinly veiled message that only students who believe in God are welcome.
The ACLU of South Dakota is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that works to defend and strengthen the individual rights and liberties guaranteed in the United States and South Dakota Constitutions through lobbying, selective litigation, and public education. In the 2019 South Dakota Legislative Session we will be working on a broad range of issues including free speech, criminal justice, reproductive freedom, immigrants rights, and LGBT rights.
