Ask Gov. Noem to Veto House Bill 1080

DEMAND GOV. NOEM VETO HOUSE BILL 1080 AND STOP GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION INTO OUR HEALTHCARE.

UPDATE: House Bill 1080 was signed into law by Gov. Kristi Noem on Feb. 13, 2023.

This ban won’t stop South Dakotans from being trans, but it will deny them critical support that helps struggling transgender youth grow up to become thriving transgender adults.

But make no mistake – this fight is not over. We will never stop fighting for the right of trans youth to the love, support and care that every young person deserves.

Join us for the fight ahead!

Ignoring strong opposition from South Dakota medical experts, parents, transgender youth, and advocates, lawmakers voted to pass House Bill 1080, legislation that will allow the government to intervene in private medical decisions, prohibiting doctors from providing life-saving gender-affirming health care to transgender South Dakotans.

The bill now moves to Gov. Kristi Noem’s desk for her signature. That means it’s time to take action!

Dear Gov. Noem,

I urge you to veto House Bill 1080.

Health care decisions should be made between doctors and patients, not politicians.

The government should not intervene in private medical decisions, and doctors should not be prohibited from providing life-saving gender-affirming health care to transgender South Dakotans.

By blocking medical care supported by every major medical association, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association, the legislature is compromising the health of trans youth in dangerous and potentially life-threatening ways.

No one should take away private health care choices around the provision of medical care consistent with prevailing medical and scientific standards. Please veto House Bill 1080.

Thank you,

[Your name]
