This month, people throughout South Dakota are celebrating the culture and diversity of the LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit community at Pride Festivals across the state.

But you can’t have a proper celebration without music. That’s why the ACLU of South Dakota has created a SoDak Pride playlist on Spotify.

The playlist is a locally curated list of eclectic songs from LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit artists and allies from different eras and genres. Some are up-tempo tracks, some are ballads and others nod to empowerment and fighting back and include

  • “I’m Coming Out,” by Diana Ross
  • “Y.M.C.A.” by the Village People
  • “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga
  • “Same Love” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
  • “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls
  • “Express Yourself” by Madonna
  • “Believe” by Cher
  • “Cover Girl” by RuPaul
  • “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge
  • “Raise Your Glass” by Pink
  • “This is Me” by Keala Settle

The playlist can be found on Spotify. Hit play and let your rainbow flag fly!

About the ACLU of South Dakota

Based in Sioux Falls, the American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of civil liberties and civil rights. The ACLU of South Dakota is part of a three-state chapter that also includees North Dakota and Wyoming. The team in South Dakota is supported by staff in those states.

The ACLU believes freedoms of press, speech, assembly, and religion, and the rights to due process, equal protection and privacy, are fundamental to a free people.  In addition, the ACLU seeks to advance constitutional protections for groups traditionally denied their rights, including people of color, women, and the LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit communities. The ACLU of South Dakota carries out its work through selective litigation, lobbying at the state and local level, and through public education and awareness of what the Bill of Rights means for the people of South Dakota.
